Capello Dashes Almunia's England Hopes

FOOTBALL – In more football news today England manager Fabio Capello has dashed Manuel Almunia’s hopes of playing for England as long as he is in charge of team affairs. The Arsenal keeper qualifies to play for England under FIFA’s residency rules, having lived in England for five years, and in the past has said that he would play for England if asked. Capello dismissed the situation in his usual frank way, “Almunia, for me, is Spanish. He is Spanish and he plays for the Arsenal team.” Loserscomesecond once again applaud Capello for calling a spade a spade.

We have a wealth of young goalkeeping talent in England with the likes of Foster, Green, Hart and Robinson to name but a few. Also, we still have David James who is a good shot stopper, but can be a bit of a vampire at times i.e. he flaps at crosses. Why should England’s number one be somebody who is not even in Spain’s pecking order?

On the other hand, how long has Edwin Van Der Saar lived in England? We just wonder....
