ATHLETICS – On the eve of the World Championships British sprinter Dwain Chambers has tried to get in on the Usain Bolt and Tyson Gay showdown by saying that he can beat Bolt. He said that it will be a test of experience versus youth and he believes that he can use his superior experience to put a “spanner in the woodwork” (his exact words) to win in Berlin.
We all know that Chambers is a controversial figure with his use of performance enhancing substances, subsequent ban and failed appeals, but he honestly cannot think that he is able to beat Bolt. We think he just likes the limelight too much and knows that this is the only way he can get his slice of the pie. Loserscomesecond doesn’t want to launch an attack on Chambers, but a statement like this just gives the impression that the only spanner “in the woodwork”, or indeed on the track, will be him. He may have superior experience, but both Bolt and Gay have superior speed so unless his experience means that he ties their shoelaces together, he won’t be beating them.
Tyson Gay has issued his own challenge by saying that he can break the 100m world record and beat Usain Bolt in Berlin. He believes that he can run 9.60 seconds because his mum believes he can do it. Whatever the outcome it will be a fantastic race and is predicted to be one of the greatest of all time. We wonder what Bolt’s mum thinks about this?
