England Internet Match A Financial Success

FOOTBALL - Soon we might be paying to watch our international football matches on the internet if the financial success of Ukraine versus England is anything to go by. The match, which England lost one-nil, was of no competitive consequence to England as they had already qualified for the World Cup. Yet, amazingly, the number of subscriptions was estimated at between 250,000 and 300,000, meaning the company owning the video rights to the England-Ukraine match, Kentaro, could have made as much as £3 million. By contrast the BBC reportedly offered only £900,000 to screen the match.

The internet age has truly arrived when England football supporters can be persuaded to stay in on a Saturday night and watch football on their computers.
