FOOTBALL - Former Charlton and West Ham United manager Alan Curbishley has said he wants to return to football management in the Premier League. Curbishley, who was sacked from his last club West Ham when the club were in fifth position in the Premier League - and West Ham are now hovering above the relegation zone - said: "I want to be at a top 10 club - the Premier League is where it's at. It's been a long 14 months."
Having Alan Curbishley return to football management would be good for the Premier League. Curbishley spent 15 years at Charlton Athletic when the club punched well above their weight, retaining their place in the Premier League against all expectations. Since Curbishley left Charlton Athletic in 2006, the club have dropped two divisions. At the time of writing they are second in Coca-Cola League 1. West Ham, similarly, enjoyed a revival under Curbishley's stewardship, and his sacking when the club were fifth in the Premier League in 2008 is now looking an act of folly as the Hammers are struggling this season in the Premier League.
It would be great for football if Curbishley was given a chance at a club like Liverpool when Benitez eventually gets the sack, but it will not happen. Maybe he will end up back at West Ham? Stranger things have happened.
