ATHLETICS - She has been at it again. Paula Radcliffe has been crying again after losing a marathon that she has raced in. This time, Radcliffe cried after losing in the New York Marathon over the past weekend. Radcliffe cried her eyes out because she is reported to be suffering from tendonitis of the left knee, and it caused her pain in the race. That is the reason given for her crying after the race, and not because she lost. It is not as if Radcliffe ran badly. She finished fourth (with an injury - again). No, Paula Radcliffe cried at the end of the New York marathon because she had an injury which she insists was painful for more than half of the 26 miles, and she was crying because she was in pain.Yeah, right.
It is strange how often 35-year-old Radcliffe has blubbed for the cameras after she has lost races. Here is a Radcliffe Crying Timeline:
2001: Finishes fourth in World Championship 10,000 metres final. Gets shouted at by husband Gary Lough for not sticking to game plan and missing out on a medal. Cries a bit.
2004: By now, Radcliffe is world record holder in the marathon. However she she struggles in the Olympic final and fails to finish. Cries a bit on national television. A day later, makes an apology to the nation on the BBC. You would have thought she had murdered the queen with her bare hands rather than fail to finish an athletics race. Cries a bit. Again.
2008: Fails to win Olympic Marathon. Cries a bit after the finish, citing injury.
2009: Fails to win New York Marathon. Cries a bit after the finish, citing injury.
So what will Radcliffe do now? Will she come back stronger than ever, vowing to win a gold at a major championships, or will she continue to compete, fail to win, a cry a bit?
Our money is on more blubbing, which she will blame on injury.
